Be the Man, Pt. 4

The past 2 weeks or so the Lord has been getting my attention with a certain area in my life that I need to step up. Let me give ya a little back story…

My son is the early riser of the family. My wife, daughter, and I are sleepers. We all love to sleep in…love it. So the plan my wife and I devised was before we go to bed turn the T.V. to a kids channel. That way when Nathaniel wakes up he can stumble in to the T.V. room and just turn on cartoons without having to disturb us…horrible parenting I know.

OK, back to my convictions. The Holy Spirit has been very clear and specific on stepping up my game in this area. Psalm 128 1-4 says:

“Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.”

So, how am I stepping it up? By doing exactly what God is telling me to do. I need to get up BEFORE my son and have my QT. The specific time I heard from the Lord was 6:30am. For some of you that is a normal day…maybe earlier. For me…this is a HUGE deal and the Lord knows it. Why do this, you may ask? I’ll tell you…

The verse above says if I fear the Lord and walk in HIS ways it will spill over into my wife and my children. I need to be the one leading this family in to the new day the Lord has given us…not my 4 year old! When my kids wake up and stumble in to the T.V. room I want them to see their dad already awake, reading his bible, praying, and taking this being a follower of Jesus thing SERIOUSLY. I want my wife to see her husband conquering something that is very hard for him and doing it because he loves Jesus and this family more than himself.

Men, we need to continually be stepping up our game to lead our families. Next to loving Jesus, this is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN OUR LIVES! Not your job, not your ministry…let’s make THEM our job and ministry!

favor to you,

Nate

  1. This is awesome Nate. I just got done writing in my journal literally not even 5 minutes ago the EXACT same thing! Well, not exact because I don’t have any kids to wake me up. But just as far as taking charge of the spiritual leadership of my family. So thanks for adding to my already massive list of things I need to get better at in order to really the man of my house.

And let’s get together again soon. I really enjoyed the last time we hung out. Peace.

  2. Oh shoot. Is it bad that this post gave me the idea to leave our TV on for our 2 year old in the morning cause he’s the early riser? Not quite what you were goin for. I guess we really would be better off if I followed your lead. ;)

  3. All I can say is “Wow.” Nate, you are truly after The Lord’s heart. And you have just won His. And because you were willing to give so much and sacrifice so much, He wants you to have one morning, every so often, to “sleep-in.”
You know what this getting up at 06:30 everyday is gonna do don’tchya? By 10:30 at night you’ll be exhausted and begin falling asleep through every movie you begin after 9:30pm. Evening time will become more precious as you come up with inventive time-management ideas during that part of your day as well.
That’ll be your next challenge. My golden rule is that because sunset is my favorite time of day I always try and be home during that time of day and that makes for a nice evening of solice before slumber takes over.
